Hygiene:- Good hygiene practice is one of the best ways to keep your baby happy and healthy. In addition to cleanliness, babies have certain areas that need special attention. Proper hygiene for these areas, such as the umbilical cord or circumcision, is very important to avoid infection.Following are the basic guidelines for baby hygiene:-Have your family and friends wash the hands with soap and water, prior to holding the baby .Wash your hands thouroughly before each feeding and after washing, try not to touch anything except your baby and feeding elements.Clean the cord at each diaper change to help it dry out and to prevent infection.
Don't overbathe baby—2 or 3 baths a week should be sufficient for the first year. Bathing too frequently can dry the skin.Use proper moisturising lotion to keep baby's skin smooth .
Give baby sponge baths until the cord has fallen off.See details about How to sponge bath your baby Never leave baby unsupervised in any depth of water.Use clean and washed towels and wash cloths for the baby to avoid any kind of infection.Keep your baby's nails trimmed to prevent baby from scratching himself or herself and to avoid any infection from tha nails when baby tends to put his/her hand in the mouth all the time. The best time to trim the nails is when baby is sleeping.Wash only the outer ear and the entrance to the ear canal, not inside of the ear.Clean by putting a clean washcloth(a little damp)and holding it in your finger ,clean only the area where your finger can easily reach(ie. the outer area of the ear).Moisten and gently wipe any dried mucus in the nostrils with a washcloth (but don't fuss too much if the baby gets upset).Dispose off the diapers properly and keep the used diapers away feom the bay ,to avoid any kind of infection
