Table etiquettes:-
Table etiquettes reflect a lot about your personality .They can make a favourable impression reflecting about your basic behaviour and upbringing . Nowadays,its the time of casual going but still you may want your children to have table etiquettes . The golden rule to teach any etiquette to your children is to make your example as a model for him/her to learn from.Etiquettes should not be practiced just infront of certain group of people or when you are in public but should be an inculcated habit.
Table etiquettes merely does not mean proper use of cutlery, sitting at or laying the table. Its about common sense gestures and habits like, speaking after chewing the food completely,you have in your mouth; not making a slurping sound while drinking your soup/water or not making noise, while eating.In addition,it includes type of conversation, you start at the table while eating,Not reading anything during the meals,communicating with everybody on the table and also being a good listener.Following things should always be kept on mind :-
Good Posture: Sit up straight at the table,relax and enjoy;do not, rock back or prop yourself up by letting the elbows touch the table. When you are not eating, keep your hands on your lap or rest on the table(best when only, wrist is resting on the table otherwise forearm is also okay.)
Basic manners:-"Please" and "Thank you" should be used while dining, especially ,the first gesture,when asking for something and it should be followed by the latter,when you receive something.
Placing your napkin :-
Always place the napkin on your lap when you first sit down. Fold it so that a quarter is folded over at the top. This provides you with double protection from spills or bread crumbs and similar food items.Napkin should be kept back on the table neatly, after the meal is finished.
Whether you are at home or at a friend's place,always
wait for others to start eating.
You should avoid touching nose, teeth and hair while dinning.Its just not a bad manner but is unhygienic too.Use waste plate for putting bones(when eating non-veg),peels of fruits etc.
Avoid spitting anything out, while eating. If there is something in the mouth, which can't be swallowed, quietly put it in a paper napkin and then continue.
When you have finished eating,put the fork and the knife diagonally crossed across the plate, this is the best way to inform that you have finished eating.
Wait for all to be finished ,before leaving the table.Express your appreciation for the meal. Never forget to thank the person for inviting you, for the meal.
