Barbeque Basics:

Summer comes with lots of fun ,enjoying grilled food is one of them.People love to barbeque and it has become one of the most popular events of summer parties. Here are some of the basics one should know about Barbeque .
Firstly, barbecues come in a wide variety of options; there are propane, natural gas and the standard barbecues for use with charcoal.
  • Choosing a Grill:
Depending upon your needs, you should choose the type of the grill. If you stay or live in an apartment ,go by the apartment community rules ,better to avoid the charcoal type as it produces smoke.Size of the grill depends upon how many people and how many times ,you entertain. Charcoal type requires to build your own fire. You need to learn a balance of cooked food to burnt food.Gas doesnot requires any of these as it has dial to control and thus can be a good option for first time users.
  • Basics to become a pro:
-Make sure to have plenty of clean utensils/containers for separately handling the raw food and the food after cooking.
-Check the temperature of the food, do not rely on how it looks from the outside on the grill.
-To make barbecuing experience easier and more enjoyable have the right utensils and barbeque accessories like,
    (a) Long handled tongs
    (b) Basting brushes
    (c)Heavy duty oven mitts
    (d) Spatulas
    (e) Wire brushes and scrubbers for cleaning the build up etc.
  • Basic Reminders:
  • Always check grill hoses for cracking, brittleness, holes and leaks before using it. There should not be any sharp bends in the hose or tubing.
  • Your grill’s propane tank should have a three-prong gas valve handle. As of April 1, 2002, the three-prong design is the new safety standard in place of old five-prong handle .
  • Always keep propane gas containers upright.
  • Do NOT ever store a spare gas container under or near the grill or indoors.
  • Do NOT ever store or use flammable liquids, like gasoline, near the grill.
  • Make sure your spark igniter consistently generates a spark to create a flame . If it's not then sometimes while trying to generate the flame propane gas can escape and could cause an explosion.
  • Do NOT ever bring the propane tank into the house.
  • Always keep the children and the pets far away from grills.
  • if using charcoal grill,it should never be used indoors, even if ventilation is provided. As it produces carbon monoxide which when collects to toxic levels can result in death.
